ALL LOCS / BRAIDS

RETOUCHES: should be booked for every 8-12 weeks.

SLEEPING: It is NOT imperative that you meticulously wrap your hair with your silk scarf, sleep on a satin pillow case or with a bonnet, but if that is your jam of course continue to do so (it won't hurt!)Some alternatives are to a) fan your locs out and sleep with them free or b) put them up in a bun.

WASHING:

  • Option 1 (Moderately Active People): Put your locs up in a bun. Combine 2 pumps of (clarifying) shampoo in a spray bottle with warm water. Spray and gently massage your scalp. Concentrating the water on your scalp while avoiding your locs, rinse your scalp completely. Let air dry.

  • Option 2 (More Physically Active People): Leave your locs down (no bun). With same concoction and following the same steps of spraying and massaging into your scalp, let the soapy mixture penetrate your locs. Wash your entire loc by gathering handfuls of loc in your hands and squeezing top down (avoid rubbing them together or “scrubbing” as you would your loose hair). Rinse fully. Let air dry.

IN-BETWEEN WASHES: If you feel the need to cleanse your scalp more often, I recommend the following:

  • Dry Shampoo/Care Between Washes Spray (Dove)

  • Astringent (SeaBreeze or Apple Cider Vinegar). If using ACV, mix 1-2 tsp with the balance of water in a spray bottle. For either, you can also soak a cotton ball in the mixture and run lightly across scalp and over parts. (Note: Do not use ACV more than once/week in your hair. It can be extremely harsh in its acidity, drastically drying the hair out and ultimately causing weakness and breakage).

  • Witch Hazel

  • Rose Water

MOISTURIZING (Scalp): It is imperative to restore moisture to your scalp after washing your hair. For sensitive to normal skin, I suggest using a light(er) oil (Vitamin-E, tea tree), and for dry to very dry skin I recommend using a heavier oil (like olive or castor).

MAINTAINING (Locs): Feel free to lightly spritz your locs daily with your favorite combination of (rose) water, leave in conditioner, oil (see above recommendations) and/or fragrance (combine in a spray bottle). A little goes a long way so don't overdo it!

FAUX LOCS

TAKE DOWN (LOCS): should be booked between 3-4 months (synthetic/blend) and 5 months (human)

WASHING: Your first wash should be at least 14 days after your appointment, allowing the hair to settle into itself (washing too soon after installation will loosen and detangle the locs' kinks, increasing the potential for slippage).

(follow “Washing” instructions under “Natural/Permanent Locs”)

REMOVAL: It will be time to remove your (human hair) locs in approximately 5-6 or synthetic/blend locs in approximately 3 months from now. I highly recommend booking a TAKE DOWN Appointment with me, as removing your locs on your own can be difficult (for you, not me 😊). Because I utilize a few different methods for installation, depending on the specificities of your install, there is no uniform way I can call out here to remove the locs that I would recommend you do at home. The take down is the last vital step of your install, and should be done by a professional.

Please let me know if you have any more questions about maintaining or taking down your style!
